Event Dates: Every Saturday, August 2010, 5 pm - Midnight

In addition to programming and producing the month-long cultural celebration, Community Arts Resources (CARS) was challenged with the opportunity to reinvigorate Chinatown with a graphic identity that was representative of its rich cultural history, and attracted new visitors to discover this vibrant community’s many hidden gems. CARS was able to successfully establish a sustainable rebranding campaign that gave life to an exciting, “World Class Cultural Capital”. These marketing and outreach efforts were crucial to the success of the first-year program, resulting in securing a key partnership with local NPR affiliate KCRW, placement in the Los Angeles Downtown News and countless other Los Angeles blogs that highlighted Chinatown Summer Nights. The inaugural event enticed an average of 12,000 visitors per night (attendance grew from 10,000 the first night to 17,000 the last night). Chinatown Summer Nights was chosen as a 2010 Downtowners of Distinction Winner; selected by Los Angeles Downtown News for its significance in benefiting its district and the Downtown area. “…The effort…reminded people of all that Chinatown has to offer, and laid the groundwork for visitors to return throughout the year.”
