Beginning in the fall of 2009, Community Arts Resources began work with the Community Redevelopment Agency of Los Angeles (CRA/LA), as well as with a select group of community stakeholders from Chinatown, to develop a cultural plan for the implementation of a summer series that would help to bring back the excitement of Chinatown at night and re-brand Chinatown as an exciting hotspot for Angelenos, especially after dark. Chinatown Summer Nights was born. Part food event, part summer party, Chinatown Summer Nights took place every Saturday in August, 2010 from 5 pm to midnight, attracting thousands of Angelenos from across this city to enjoy art and dance workshops, food trucks, KCRW DJs, video projections, ping pong, an arts and crafts event, and local Chinatown restaurants and shops.
